Into The Wild

Agricultural hermit in the wild lands

Hermitages Suspended Between Heaven and Earth Hermitages Suspended Between Heaven and Earth

Our hermitage is surrounded by strips of land that are slowly being repurposed for agriculture, because here, nature reigns supreme. This house is our attempt to learn from her how to nourish our lives with the energy that exists (she knows how to do it very well).

We experience this house as our hermitage. That is, a place where we can nourish both body and spirit with apparent solitude amidst an intense wildlife. We want to share this beauty by occasionally welcoming guests. We don't offer a tourist stay, but a direct experience of happy degrowth.

We believe that a week is enough time to have a meaningful experience and to engage with the rhythm that accompanied our ancestors for millennia and that today is so distant from city life.
This is a rustic house that we completely renovated with simple materials: raw and terracotta earth, slate, wood, and wool. Wood heating is used, and solar energy is the main source of electricity and hot water.
The hermitage (700 m above sea level) overlooks a vast panorama of mountains and even the sea (in the distance). The house is surrounded by cherry and apple trees.

The house and the adjacent 10,000 m2 are surrounded by a fence that prevents the entry of wild animals and also allows you to let your dog run free.

Beyond the fence, the hermitage is surrounded by woods and aromatic plants. Wild animals are frequently sighted: fallow deer, roe deer, wild boar, foxes, badgers, pheasants, partridges, and dormice. Wolves are common but difficult to spot. Sometimes during the summer, you can hear their howling in concert.

How to arrive
  • Address: Via Lezzaruole 131A 16040

  • 2 km from the finish, 2 sharp bends may force very long vehicles with a large turning radius (vans) to make special maneuvers.

  • The last kilometer of the road is unpaved and therefore not suitable for very low vehicles. Alternatively, you can park your car at the beginning of this unpaved road and cover the last stretch in about 10 minutes.

  • The last 100 meters are regularly damaged by rain and are therefore sometimes more difficult to navigate by car. 4x4s are always accessible, but some small cars may need to park immediately beforehand. In such cases, our Panda 4x4 is available to transport luggage to the house.

  • Parking next to the hermitage with easy U-turn.

House rules

The house is fully available, as is access to the fruit trees and all the surrounding land. For family reasons, we are currently unable to maintain the vegetable garden.

The hermitage is composed of:

- Sleeping area on the first floor with two double bedrooms, one with twin beds and the other with an additional bunk bed, and a children's bedroom. One of the bedrooms has a private toilet and sink.

- Ground floor living area with living room, kitchen, and full bathroom. The living room features a fireplace, sofa, dining table (seats 6), and a small game table (built-in chessboard and storage for other board games).

-The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, a refrigerator (80 cm high) and a wood-burning stove.

The bathroom: shower, toilet, bidet, sink. A washing machine has recently been installed, but outside.

Outside, there's a large terrace with a pergola in front of the house. It's a very lively space. There's a wood-burning oven, a barbecue, a laundry tub, and a fountain.
